Spiritual Musician, Composer and Shakuhachi Master

Totnes, Devon

The search for the purity of a simple melodic line, a fascination with the study of different musical traditions around the world, and a call to explore inner realms through the dimension of sound… a journey that leads to the edge of silence and back. Adrian is the consummate musician, composer and shakuhachi (sacred Japanese bamboo flute) player. He moved Japan in 1993 to study at Kyoto University as a composition research fellow until 1998. During that time he continued his shakuhachi studies with Yokoyama Katsuya. While in Japan, Adrian gave solo recitals in Japanese Zen temples across the country, composed and performed many soundtracks for Butoh-Japanese contemporary dance. Adrian set up and ran several arts-education/community projects in the UK, which had an international exchange with musicians and dancers from Japan. He is incorporating sacred music into spiritual practice. In April 2014 he was invited to play shakuhachi for His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Kyoto, Japan.
